Hands for Homeless Orphans
Hands for Homeless Orphans is a registered non-for-profit organisation in Australia. The charity was established and originally named as Africa Coptic Care in 2017, with a clear vision to help homeless orphans in Africa and Asia with shelter, education, and health services. Since then, South Sudan, the poorest country in the world for the last 10 years, was elected for the initiation of charity projects there. We started in a small country town called Yirol in the Eastern Lakes State. We received a block of land (40,000 sqm) and we are building an orphanage and also building primary schools and secondary schools for girls. Our next project, for 2021, is to build a craft school. The goal is to teach theoretical and practical skills for becoming a plumber, electrician and wielder. Simultaneously, we are aiming to establish a primary healthcare clinic within the premises that not only serves the hosted orphans but also provides health services to the community.
Current Projects
Orphanage
Hands for Homeless Orphans has established an orphanage in Yirol, South Sudan. The orphanage will contain 32 bedrooms and 8 restrooms to host up to 250 orphans. So far, we have built 16 bedrooms and 4 restrooms, which represents 50% of the anticipated total size of the orphanage.
Farms
Hands for Homeless Orphans is planning to cultivate a farm of fruits and vegetables and an animal farm, next to the Orphanage. This will secure basic food supplies all year, and ensure our 250 orphans can enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
Schools & Workshop
Hands for Homeless Orphans plans to build a Primary School for 500 Children, a girls Secondary School for 200 children and a Crafts School to teach plumbing, electrical skills, carpentry and welding. We will soon start to build the Primary School and our plan is to start enrolment of children by February, 2021.
Residential Home
Hands for Homeless Orphans has built a residential home of 8 bedrooms with several facilities to accommodate for working staff at the construction sites, schools, farms and orphanage.
Future Projects
Solar Energy
Example of Solar System
Hands for Homeless Orphans plans to secure a source of solar electricity for the orphanage and schools. Currently, we are depending on electricity generators that are run by petroleum. The supply of petroleum is not only unstable but also too expensive due to the unpaved road between Yirol village and its nearest city, which is 300 miles away. Accordingly, the organisation plans to install a solar energy based system to be used to conduct electricity for the Orphanage and schools.
Primary Healthcare Clinic
Example of Primary Healthcare Clinic
Hands for Homeless Orphans plans to establish a primary healthcare clinic within the premises to provide primary health services to orphans and the community. Currently, there is no primary healthcare clinic in Yirol, and if any orphan experiences a medical emergency or health concern, they have to be transferred to the nearest city hospital, through unpaved roads, 300 miles commuting distance.
